2026 Eclipse Viewing Cities

The capital of Asturias lies near the center line of the 2026 eclipse, offering excellent totality duration. Surrounded by mountains, the dramatic landscape adds to the spectacle. A fantastic base for combining the eclipse with hiking in the Picos de Europa.

Historic city on the Camino de Santiago with close proximity to the center line. León offers good totality duration and the meseta landscape provides wide-open skies with fewer clouds than the coast. The Gothic cathedral makes a stunning eclipse foreground.

Spain's fifth-largest city sits along the eclipse path with some of the best weather prospects. The semi-arid Ebro valley climate means low cloud cover in August. The Basilica del Pilar provides a world-class eclipse viewing foreground.

Spain's Basque powerhouse, home to the Guggenheim Museum. The eclipse path clips the city, offering a unique cultural backdrop for viewing. Pintxos bars and world-class restaurants make it an excellent base.

Beautiful coastal city on the Bay of Biscay. The Magdalena Peninsula offers stunning viewing spots with unobstructed horizons. A ferry connects to the UK (Plymouth/Portsmouth).

European Green Capital with a cooler microclimate than the coast. Being inland gives better cloud cover odds than Bilbao or Santander, with easy access to both.

Pamplona will see an extremely deep partial eclipse but lies just outside the official path of totality. Eclipse travellers should relocate into the path and confirm the precise site with IGN data.

Dry inland Catalan city with some of the best weather odds on the path. The Seu Vella cathedral on the hill provides a dramatic viewing location.

Palma offers about 1 minute 36 seconds of totality and strong tourist infrastructure, but the Sun will be only about 2 degrees above the western horizon. A completely unobstructed viewing site is essential.
